Hello Viewers, Thanks for viewing this video on our channel 2 Infinity. In this video we are going to show you important places that you can explore in Old Goa. We dedicated one full day to explore Old Goa, on 30th December, 2022. The vibes of that place is pretty different from what we encountered in South Goa. We hired a cab to explore. So first we visited the famous churches of Old Goa. Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral respectively. Please note, there is strict dress code to enter the Churches in Goa, so please dress accordingly. It got pretty hot even in December afternoon. So after exploring the churches, we visited Fontainhas. This place is very popular among Instagrammers and other social media creators. Its a colorful Portuguese colony, and has a chill vibe to it. We had an awesome lunch at Viva Panjim. After lunch we headed to Dona Paula, but the visit was disappointing. As some construction work was going on, so we were not allowed to visit the jetty or the elevated view point. So we did not spend much time there and returned to South Goa, and enjoyed the sunset at Colva Beach. ************************************************* About the Place ************************************************* "Old Goa" refers to the historic city of Goa Velha, located in the western state of Goa, India. It was the former capital of Portuguese India from the early 16th century until the mid-18th century. The city played a significant role in the colonial history of India and is known for its rich architectural and cultural heritage. During its heyday, Old Goa was a major trading and administrative center for the Portuguese in Asia. It was home to many beautiful churches, cathedrals, and other colonial-era buildings. Some of the most famous structures in Old Goa include: Basilica of Bom Jesus: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this church is known for housing the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. It is a prime example of baroque architecture and is renowned for its intricate ornamentation. Sé Cathedral: One of the largest churches in Asia, Sé Cathedral is dedicated to St. Catherine and is famous for its impressive architecture and intricate altars. St. Cajetan Church: This church resembles St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and is known for its Corinthian architecture and beautiful interiors. Church and Convent of St. Monica: This church is known for its simple yet elegant architecture, and it was originally part of a convent. St. Augustine Tower: The tower is a remnant of the Church of St. Augustine, which was once one of the largest churches in Goa. The tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Old Goa. Over time, due to various factors such as epidemics, political changes, and shifting trade routes, the capital was moved to Panaji (also known as Panjim), which is the present-day capital of the state of Goa. Old Goa gradually lost its prominence and became a historical site. Today, Old Goa remains a popular tourist destination for its well-preserved historical buildings and religious sites. Visitors from all over the world come to admire the architecture, learn about the history of Portuguese colonization in India, and experience the cultural richness of the area.
