https://neurologyofcannabis.com Hello, friends and colleagues. I want to talk with you today about cannabis use disorder and making an assessment regarding cannabis use in your patients. You may have an idea that someone is using cannabis by the way they behave or on their review of systems. And I think it’s important to ask the question, if they’re using cannabis. Just like other substances, cannabis use disorder can interfere with day-to-day functioning. It’s important to make a distinction between those individuals that are using cannabis medicinally in a way that doesn’t interfere with their day-to-day functioning, and with those that are using cannabis overboard. So for example, someone who comes in that’s 20 or 22 years old, and they admit to inhaling cannabis every day from morning till night, probably have cannabis use disorder. They’re inhaling cannabis as what are called dabs or rosin, basically inhaling 20 or 30 milligrams of THC in one dose. That’s way too much for medicinal use for the vast majority of patients. So when it comes to using cannabis and conversations with their doctor, these patients may not be forthcoming with exactly how much they use. But if you ask them, “Are you dabbing? How much THC Are you inhaling? And are you able to function day-to-day?” they may open up and share with you these details.
