Did you know large flowering Pansy and small flowering Johnny-Jump-Up Viola are part of the same family? Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about one of the first spring annuals available, Pansies & Violas. While most varieties are considered spring (or fall) seasonal color in Northeast Ohio, there are perennial VIolas available! Perennial Violas tend to exhibit a hardy, clump-forming habit that establishes quickly in the garden producing medium-sized, often fragrant pansy-like flowers. These varieties, such as Celestial™ Northern Lights, Celestial™ Starry Night, and Celestial™ Blue Moon, are heat tolerant and hardier than most pansies but need a cool, shady spot for summer in the garden. Pansies and Violas are frost tolerant and attract early-season pollinators!
