On Tuesday, February 24 at 2 p.m., the Music ’n’ Mavens concert and lecture series at the Rady Jewish Community Centre turns back the clock with A Salute to the ’60s and ’70s. It’s an afternoon of classic hits, warm memories, and the unmistakable voice of one of Manitoba’s most celebrated performers. Joey Gregorash first made his name on the community club circuit and other venues with his bands The Mongrels, and Walrus before launching a solo career that produced chart-topping hits like Jodie, My Love Sings, and a rendition of Neil Young’s Down By the River. That early success earned him a place in Canadian music history as the first solo Manitoba act to win a Juno Award. Later, Together (The New Wedding Song) became a Canadian favourite, played at countless celebrations across the country. Now, Joey returns to the stage with guitarist Brian McMillan and bassist Vaughan Poyser to relive the songs and stories that defined a generation.
