In this video, we look at how small tonguing changes can bring subtle variety to a melodic riff. We also see what that looks like in Nakai Tab notation. Our NAFs do not have a huge range. Just over an octave. So we usually do not have the option simply popping a tune an octave up or down to change its character like our silver concert flute playing friends can do. Our expressive power mostly comes from how we use our tongue and our breath. Sunflower is a solo Native Flute song from my two album project, Morning Star, Evening Star. For this track, I played the song twice through then ended with a tag. It is intentionally light on effects, using mostly just a touch of reverb. I played it on a NAF in A by Colyn Petersen.
