OVERVIEW: Dive into the science of overcoming fear and reshaping mindsets in this captivating two-part course. Inhibitory learning involves forming new associations that inhibit or counteract pre-existing fear-based associations, rather than erasing them. This concept is widely applied in therapeutic settings such as exposure therapy for anxiety disorders, including phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and social anxiety. OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to... • Define inhibitory learning and explain how new learning can inhibit old learning in the context of anxiety and exposure-based treatment. • Explain how inhibitory learning compares to emotional processing theory. • Recognize the importance of flexibility in adapting exposure-based treatment to individual cases. BIO: Kate is a licensed psychologist and serves as the Director of Research and Outcomes at OCD Anxiety Centers. She received her doctoral training in clinical psychology at American University, and developed specialties in the treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs). Dr. Rogers has worked with OCD Anxiety Centers since 2016, holding direct clinical, training, and quality assurance/compliance roles. As Director of Research and Outcomes, she collects and analyzes data to improve clinical outcomes, and collaborates with universities and researchers across the country to help close the gap between science and practice.
