The Baltivia was built in 1981 as Sagaland for the TT Saga Line route Travemünde-Helsingborg. Before entering service in December 1981, the name was changed to Saga Star. In 1983, the Saga Star changed to the Travemünde - Trelleborg route. From 1986-1988, the Saga Star continued to sail on the Travemünde - Trelleborg route under the TT-Line flag. After a few charter assignments, the ship was renamed Girolata in 1989 and operated on the Marseille - Bastia route. In 1993, the ship was chartered by the TT-Line shipping company and again operated under the name Saga Star on the Travemünde - Trelleborg route. In 1995, the Saga Star changed to the Rostock - Trelleborg route and was bought back by TT-Line in 1997. In 2001 the ship was sold by TT-Line and in 2002 the ship was operated under the new name Dieppe for Transmanche Ferries between Dieppe and Newhaven. In 2006, the ship was sold to Polferries and renamed Baltivia.
