Torry is a regeneration-area on the other side of the river Dee in Aberdeen, Scotland. Throughout the years, Torry had to endure many challenges: the displacement of its fishing community and the rise in poverty following the loss of its fishing village, wiped away to make room for the Oil and Gas industry; a leaking water treatment plant, a controversial incinerator and a harbour newly built without even consulting the residents. To the latest battles: their only green space, St.Fitticks park, threatened by a new plan of industrialisation to make space for green energy, and 500 homes found now (many years after the council sold them at full price) to have RAAC, with a consequent evacuation and demolition plan coming soon into action, with the council refusing to fix them, or even re-buying the houses (they sold) at the correct market price. Episode 5 of this series dedicated to Torry (and the apparent war that governances have declared to it) retraces the history of St. Fittick's park and shows how the Friends of St. Fittick's Park campaigners have tried, especially in the last few months, to save the park from industrialisation. A big thanks to everyone involved, and to Debbie Greig for the pictures of her mother, Sheila Thomson.
