Thank you so much for watching!!! This is the longest I've EVER spent on a video, it's my best work, and I'm so proud and happy to finally release it publicly. ABBA are one of the most popular bands of all time, but you rarely see them talked about in a critical sense nowadays, so it was fascinating going back in time and reading what they were like, their history, impact, story, etc. Also sorry to all my incredibly loyal and ENDLESSLY supporting viewers in Russia and Belarus, this video is copyright blocked in those regions :(( Viewing is always enough, but if you feel you want to like the video, subscribe to my channel, leave a comment, it means the world to me and more! Now for the technical stuff..... VIDEO CHAPTERS 00:00 - Intro 00:28 - Rooted Success (Early History) 01:38 - The Springboard (Waterloo) 04:03 - ABBA Fever (SOS/Mamma Mia) 07:14 - The Girls (Dancing Queen) 11:11 - Here To Stay (Take A Chance On Me/Chiquitita) 13:41 - Genius Production (Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!) 18:14 - The Full Package (The Winner Takes It All) 21:10 - The Iron Mindset (Current Day) SLIGHT CORRECTIONS/CLARIFICATIONS: (MISTAKE) *18:05 - Benny & Frida got divorced in 1981, NOT 1980! Careless mistake on my part. *0:53 - Bjorn is talking about meeting Benny specifically here, it’s reported that the couples met between the later part of the 60s, but their formation as a group similarly happened around the same time frame. *4:35 - Bang-A-Boomerang is a song written by ABBA for Svenne & Lotta and the chart performances on screen are of that version. ABBA still have their own version of the song on their self-titled album, so that’s why I included it here. *6:09 - I am writing this video as a British person, they had 18 consecutive top 10 singles in the UK only. I should have mentioned that in the voiceover but this statistic only applies to the United Kingdom. *7:30 - Fernando was actually originally recorded for Frida’s solo album in Swedish, but ABBA re-recorded it in English for Arrival. I just didn’t feel the need to mention it here for irrelevance in the grand narrative of the video. *9:21 - There are 16 countries on screen. Dancing Queen did go number one in 15 countries, but they also went number one in West Germany, which until 1990, was a separate country, and now no longer exists. I mainly thought I’d include it as a neat little fact, but also to increase the magnitude of how successful Dancing Queen was. *12:10 - Again, this is from a British perspective. If we’re talking worldwide, The Bee-Gees actually were the band that had the most number ones in the 70s (9 No.1s!), but this is a British statistic, sorry to any viewers outside of the UK. *13:42 - They actually had Dancing Queen on cassette, not Gimme Gimme Gimme. This was done more for dramatic effect to transition into the next section but the point still stands that the Sex Pistols loved ABBA. *18:20 - This interview took place on 22nd February 1977, not in 1980 lile the titled card suggests. Linda would’ve actually been 7 by then, but this clip worked WAY too well to not put in this part of the video. *19:09 - ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ was released as a single in early 1977, but Arrival released in 1976 (the album it’s a part of), which is why I said 1976 instead, in case anyone might’ve got confused. *20:34 - Dancing Queen is the only Billboard Hot 100 Number 1 they ever got, but The Winner Takes It All went Number 1 in the US Adult Contemporary charts. It didn’t go No. 1 in the US Billboard Hot 100 (Number 8) but to me that still counts as 5 countries. *21:10 - The Day Before You Came wasn’t on The Visitors, but it was released in 1982 after The Visitors came out (1981). This shot is not meant to signify it is, it’s more used as a chapter marker in their discography across the video. Sorry for any confusion.
