Ferrari Colani - 1991

With a career that was begun in the car industry, Colani is famous for treating car designs as sculptures. With only 350 units ever built, the Ferrari Colani Testa d'Oro concept vehicle was based on the 1984 Testarossa. Considered to be absolutely breathtaking, the concept was created by French master model maker Ilario who based it on a Testarossa wheelbase. The vehicle also featured a Ferrari Twin Turbo Flat 12 which produced 750 bhp. The concept was developed by Ferdinand Pietz. Luigi Colani believed that car design should not be about small details, rather about the ‘bigger picture' Colani used a slogan in German: 'langsam, leise, lustig, liecht' which means ‘slow, quiet, spirited and light', which aptly describes the design behind his creations. Colani's father was a movie set designer from Switzerland, and his mother was an actress from Poland. Born as Lutz Colani in Berlin in 1928, the name Lutz eventually was changed to 'Luigi'. Considered to be one of the world's ‘foremost industrial designers', Colani is famous for creating the Colani Ferrari Testa d'Oro in 1989. The Testa d'Ora achieved the world speed record in its class; veicle with catalytic converter in 1991, achieving 351km/h. Designed specifically to break speed records, the Testa D Oro features a catalytic converter. Able to achieve 750 hp at 400 rpm and 900 Nm at 5000 rpm, the D Oro features a twin turbo. With an overall weight of 1650 kg the D Oro has a top speed of 351 km/h and can achieve 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The price of the Colani Testa D Oro is DM 1,000,000.
