This area is very popular among Turkish tourists and even now in the pre-season it was already busy. Ayvalık's center has a few main streets with shops, restaurants etc. but the real charm of this place is found in the backstreets where you'll see old stone houses with flowers growing at the doorsteps and cobblestoned streets. There are also some side streets where you'll find people selling homemade products and handicrafts, so you should definitely go off exploring beyond the main streets when you come to Ayvalık. And have a look at the 150 years old Seytanin Kahvesi/Devil Cafe - it's a charming place in an area where some Turkish movies and series have been shot. Their mulberry (karadut) juice is amazing! And of course you should try the famous Ayvalık toast that you can find all over town.
