More powerful motors will have larger inrush currents and so it becomes really important to reduce the amount of inrush current that they naturally create. A very common way of doing this is to use a Star Delta Starter, this clever piece of control equipment uses the natural differences between Star and Delta connected loads to reduce the amount of current that flows into a motor when it starts.
