Exploring Orchard Road Singapore: A Foodie Walk from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura Today, I embarked on a leisurely walk down the iconic Orchard Road — Singapore’s premier shopping belt — starting from Tanglin Mall and ending at Plaza Singapura. But this wasn’t just about the big malls and fashion brands; it was also a discovery of the lesser-known small food shops tucked between the glitz and glamour, offering everything from local snacks to international bites. My journey began at Tanglin Mall, located at the quieter end of Orchard Road. Known for its family-friendly vibe and more laid-back pace, this mall features cafes and eateries catering to expatriates and locals alike. Walking past the Forum The Shopping Mall, I noticed a few charming bakeries and specialty coffee shops. It was still early, so many office-goers were grabbing quick breakfasts. As I moved on, the road gradually transformed into the busier shopping zone. The area around Shaw House and ION Orchard was buzzing with tourists and locals. At Shaw Centre, there was a mix of casual dining and upscale restaurants. I continued past TANGS, one of Singapore's oldest department stores. Just beside it, Lucky Plaza offered a stark contrast — bustling with budget eateries and small kiosks selling Filipino dishes, bubble tea, curry puffs, and more. The strong food aroma wafting through the building pulled many visitors in for a quick meal. The highlight of the mid-walk was Ngee Ann City, home to Takashimaya and the sprawling Food Hall in the basement. From Japanese bento sets to gourmet pastries and traditional Asian snacks, this place was a food paradise in itself. Just across the street, 313@Somerset had more trendy food options targeting the younger crowd — think Korean fried chicken, artisanal donuts, and fashionable tea brands. As I continued walking, I passed by The Istana, the official residence of Singapore’s President. It was a peaceful stretch with shaded trees, providing a brief respite from the heat. Nearby, some standalone food kiosks and local snack vendors could be spotted, especially around Dhoby Ghaut MRT. My walk ended at Plaza Singapura, a popular shopping mall with a diverse mix of food options. From fast food chains to well-known restaurants and hidden basement food stalls, the choices were endless. I spotted some old-school stalls selling local favourites like char kway teow and chicken rice, as well as trendy dessert shops drawing in younger crowds. Throughout the entire Orchard Road stretch, what stood out most wasn’t just the luxury stores and bright lights — it was the abundance of small food shops, many of which are easily missed unless you look closely. They’re perfect for a quick snack, a full meal, or just to experience a more down-to-earth side of Orchard. This walk reminded me that even along Singapore’s busiest shopping belt, you can still find hidden food gems — if you’re willing to slow down and explore. #singapore #food #travel If you like my channel please like , subscribe and share.
