In this webinar, Prof. Alex McBratney, Dr. Sandra Evangelista and Dr. Julio Pachon from the University of Sydney discuss 'Soil Security – A Holistic Framework Beyond Soil Health'. The Soil Security framework expands beyond indicators such as carbon, recognising that soil functions, services, and vulnerabilities depend on multiple interacting dimensions. The webinar will highlight how Soil Security aligns with global initiatives which call for the development of legal frameworks to sustainably manage soil ecosystems. Prof. Alex McBratney is a soil scientist recognised as one of the founders of pedometrics and digital soil mapping, and a leading architect of the soil security framework. His work has advanced global soil science and continues to influence research, policy, and practical applications in agriculture, environmental management, and soil security worldwide. Dr. Sandra Evangelista holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a PhD in Soil Science, both from the University of Sydney. Her research focus is on developing quantitative frameworks to quantify soil security. She also collaborates closely with researchers in India on the development of an AI-based monitoring platform for soil carbon sequestration. Dr. Julio Pachon holds a PhD from the University of Florida and is a soil scientist at the University of Sydney, is passionate about conservation and improved land management. His work spans soil security, pedometrics, and hydrology, drawing on research and field experience across national parks, mangroves, forestry systems, and agricultural regions in Brazil, Ecuador, Tanzania, Australia, and the United States to understand their interconnections and improve the monitoring of land, water, and mineral resources. https://soils.org.uk/videos/zoom-into...
