Mike Straiko, MD Devers Eye Institute Portland Oregon 503-413-8202 This video highlights the use of Patient Ready DMEK™ tissue. The DMEK tissue is prepared at the Lions VisionGift eyebank in Portland Oregon. The tissue is peeled, stained, S stamped for orientation, punched to size, and loaded into the injector. The preloaded tissue and injector combination are then placed into a viewing chamber for shipment. The tissue is inspected with a validated process following the preloading process. This ensures that there has been minimal endothelial damage to the graft. The Patient Ready DMEK™ process streamlines work in the OR and removes the expense of a punch and trypan blue. Most importantly the tissue is inspected for quality prior to leaving the eyebank. In this video Michael Straiko, MD is using the Patient Ready tissue in a surgery for Fuch's endothelial dystrophy. The video emphasizes pearls for successful DMEK surgery combined with cataract surgery. In this video we see the DMEK technique using Patient Ready DMEK tissue prepared at Lions VisionGift in Portland Oregon. The surgery is being performed by Dr. Michael Straiko at Devers Eye Institute / Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland Oregon. The type of transplant in this video is a DMEK (Descemet's Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty). In this type of transplant only the dysfunctional inner layers of the cornea are replaced. This technique allows for a safer surgery and a more rapid recovery than conventional transplants. This is the latest iteration of endothelial keratoplasty. Dr Straiko can be reached at the Devers Eye Institute in Portland Oregon.
