It contains a single score written in the Táng-period zhēng (箏; 13-string zither) notation and an excerpt of the story "Emperor Xuán-zōng's Visit of the Moon Palace in His Dream (明皇夢遊廣寒宮; Míng-huáng Mèng-yóu Guǎng-hán-gōng)". Under the score's title are the notes "One of 17 pieces by/from Sūn Bīn (孫賓十七中; Sūn Bīn shí-qī zhōng)". Sūn Bīn was a musician from the Táng dynasty who travelled to Japan in 845 and introduced 17 (some evidence suggests 13) pieces of zhēng solo pieces to the Japanese court. Thus, the score in the Sōfu-dankan is likely the sixth example of music by/from Sūn Bīn in addition to the five known ones preserved in the Ruisō Chiyō (類箏治要). One special aspect of note is the sole use of single Chinese characters to convey various techniques (this is similar to the Táng-period shēng [笙] notation) for both left and right hands, rather than the various symbols more commonly seen in the vast majority of surviving zhēng scores.
