What is the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course and why is it important for yacht crew? Last week we met up with the expert course instructors from Zephyr Yachting to see first hand what the course entails and why is it important for yacht crew. This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat up to 10 meters in familiar waters. This means that this is the course you will need to complete in order to be allowed to drive a yacht tender. The course is 85% practical and taught on a 6.5 RIB with a maximum of three persons per course. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations. While the course is most relevant for deck crew, interior crew members are also encouraged to complete it as they may be required to drive the tender in certain situations.
