These Mysterious Viking Artifacts Proved They Visited America

A recent archaeological discovery near the town of L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland may reveal evidence for Viking settlement. Today, we're going to talk about some artifacts that have been discovered that show Vikings were in fact present and active on the North American continent well before Columbus landed in 1492. Three monuments stand to symbolically honor the visit of Leif Ericson to the Boston area. Of course, we do know that the explorer visited and explored much of what is now known as Massachusetts. However, there is not enough scientific evidence to pinpoint the exact location where residents of Vinland docked their ship for these explorations. According to Grnlendinga saga, Thorvald Eirksson led an expedition to Vinland from which he never returned. It is said that his body was taken there while he was still alive and buried in a burial mound near the headland with the intention of building a church on top of it. A rock in the Taunton River has had scholars stumped for years. It was found embedded in thick mud, not far from the Bristol Harbor. Although it's been underwater most of its life there have been several sketches indicating that its inscriptions are real and not a hoax. This tower is standing on a hillside overlooking Narragansett Bay near Newport, Rhode Island, known as the Viking stone tower. Normally, a small artifact like this would not be so mysterious, but legends surrounding the whereabouts of an ancient rune marking stone is what really sparked everyone’s interest.
