Sustainable Cities for All - Unlocking the Potential of African Urban Dynamics

We cannot begin to realise the potential for our cities until we grapple with the magnitude of change represented by urbanisation. For this, we need both macro and micro lenses, exploring the broad trends of urbanisation that will shape our continent, and the detailed interdependent relationships of place that shape how we live, work and play in these cities. For the first webinar in this four-part series we lay the basis for why the conversations taking place through the RISE Africa platform are so pertinent: it contextualises the many thematics, pressures, challenges and opportunities that urban practitioners are grappling with, within an urbanisation and urban dynamics frame. It offers new insights into how the continent's cities are forming, and how they will look in the next decades. It places informality at the forefront of urban development conversation, asking how we meaningfully incorporate, invest in or problematize informal processes. The session will draw these macro and micro realities together and set the basis for this year's RISE Africa conversations.
