Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has appealed for calm and respect for the democratic process as the country prepares for a court-ordered vote of no confidence on Tuesday. Speaking at Jacksons Airport before flying to Brisbane on Friday, April 4, 2025, PM Marape explained that he is attending two important engagements: 1. A meeting with the University of Queensland on future student placement opportunities for Papua New Guinean students. 2. Talks with the Brisbane Broncos to strengthen PNG’s push for inclusion in the NRL by 2028. He said his decision to leave the country at this time is deliberate—to show the public and MPs that he is not holding anyone in camp or controlling votes, and that Parliament must be free to decide. “I lose no sleep over losing the Prime Ministership. It is not my personal property. The process must be respected,” he said. PM Marape urged citizens, especially students, to remain peaceful and law-abiding, and reminded young people that their greatest contribution is to respect women and pursue education.
