This invisible poison travels on your hair, your clothes, your shoes, your tools and it causes permanent brain damage for children under the age of 6. If your home is built before 1940 in the U.S., nearly 90% of these homes contain lead. Even if you live in a new house, you may be bringing this poison into your home from articles you buy, or collect, or were handed down in your family. You may bring this poison dust from the places you visit or work into your home. Watch as Kate Kirkwood actually tests household objects on the TEDx stage and shows you which ones contain toxic lead paint. - Kate Kirkwood is a mother of four and lives in New Hampshire. She holds several national and state lead certifications and has formed an educational company called Lead-EDU through which she offers training for contractors, landlords, do-it-yourselfers and parents. Kate has authored a children’s’ book, "Skylar Learns About Lead Poisoning" and is currently working on a series of books to be released later this year called “lead paint clear and simple”. Her mission is to help people understand how lead paint can affect you, your family and your work environment, and help you sort through the maze of regulations to find simple solutions to stay safe and healthy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
