Malaysia points of interest: Perhentian Islands - Scuba Diving Trip

FINALLY! My acting debut!!! My latest adventure was a 3 Day Diving Trip… with over 400 video clips, 30+ hours editing done over 2 weeks into a….3 minute video LOL. And this is a “Hobby” LOL So Ask any Malaysian, ‘Where is the most beautiful place?’ The answer varies from person to person but you’ll hear the same places over and over. They are… Perhentian, Redang, Sabah, Mount Kota Kinabalu, Tengol, etc,etc. Most of the answers will be beaches. After all, Malaysia is part of the coral triangle and there are some absolutely fantastic beaches here. I FINALLY visited Perhentian. This place is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-A-F So what are you going to see? I tried to capture the beauty of the place, the journey, locals, diving and more. Most of the time I was walking around the island recording, observing and enjoying…. Sometimes I felt like I just wanted to chill and other times I felt like I needed to get more shots. So striking a balance between the 2 was actually not that easy. Because when I’m chilling and I see something cool so getting up to record it killed that buzz… How much was it? Total price? 6 Dives, Equipment Rental, Housing (with aircon!!), Food, Beer and etc I spent over 1300 ringgit or $332. Not bad. If I had my own gear and didn’t drink a lot of beer (beer is heavily taxed here because it’s considered a “sin” by the Muslims) I would of spent about $250. Malaysia Points of Interest: 14 sec - You can fly or drive to Perhentian. We drove and it took 6-7 hours. Luckily I wasn’t driving so I could sleep the entire time. I woke up and we were there lol. Thank you Mark for driving all night. 37 sec - Rode a ferry to the islands. Took about an hour to get to the island. 40 sec - Heard of Scooby Doobee Doo?. The group I went with is from Scuba Doobee Doo Dive Shop LOL. They arrange dive trips around the country (and Indonesia & Thailand) and through them I’ll be able to visit these hard to get areas in Malaysia! 1:20 - 1:27 - Family Oriented. The Island we went to is pretty popular with families. So a lot of kids and families. The other island on Perhentian is full of backpackers and I hear the beach parties are EPIC. I wished I was on the other island haha 1:27 - MALAYSIANS! I have a question. There is a girl or boy around 5-7 yrs old, i don’t know because I’m taking the shot from behind. But it looks like they are wearing a swimming cap. But if it was a girl, would that of been a hijab for the water..? 1:33 - Uber Eats by Boat lol. Everything is delivered by boat. The island is a national reserve so there is no fishing allowed. Trash as well is also thrown away by boat too (Thank GOD!)… Anyways its not like cheap $5/day Bungalows in Thailand so food and a room will set you back about $100 a day (without diving). 1:38 - Beach Sports. During sunset I ran across some locals playing football on the beach. It was fun watching them. I got many angles but I liked this one the best. 1:41 - Sunrise. I woke up at 6:00am to catch it. Too bad the sun was rising in the OTHER direction FML. But this was my favorite shot. The pink, purple, blue, orange…so many colors. WOW! 2:03 - the guy talking is VJ, our Dive Master and Instructor. Btw Thanks VJ for the underwater footage. My underwater case for my GoPro broke so I didn’t have much underwater footage but VJ saved me AND this video :) 2:20 - Look, at the bottom of the ocean. That is ALOT of dead coral. I really think we don’t have much time before much of the world’s coral dies (pollution, tourist stepping on or damaging coral, or rising water temperatures is killing the coral). Many of it is bleached already (coral is no longer colourful and looks plain white, the stage before death). So if you go diving, swimming, snorkelling or whatever please make sure you DON’T touch or break the coral. It takes HUNDREDS of years to grow!! Please take care of the environment or our children or childrens children won’t be able to enjoy it. Which is a very real possibility :( 2:22 - Sunken police boat.
