Rotary International District 9112 recently paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Lagos State Government where a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) was signed to boost vocational education and skills development in Nigeria. The District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin, emphasized Rotary's focus on dignity of labour, inclusivity, empowerment and community development. He reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and sustainable community development. "We believe in doing things the right way. There must be continuity not only in recruitment but also in governance. Development is not limited to education and health alone. While education remains a core focus of Rotary, our work goes beyond that. Community economic development, especially empowering the less privileged, is a major priority" The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr. Waheed Kasali praised Rotary's impactful social initiatives. "We can't thrive in isolation. Let's equip youth with critical thinking skills to become solution providers". Also speaking at the event, the Director of the Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, praised the strong collaboration between the Agency and Rotary International District 9112, highlighting their shared commitment to advancing vocational education. The Chairman of the Centre-Based Management Committee, Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Fred Ijewere, underscored the urgent need to align vocational education with industry demands, citing Nigeria’s widening skills gap. He announced plans to introduce modern vocational skills such as mobile phone repairs and solar panel installation. He further explained that the vocational centre would partner with relevant industries to integrate required competencies into the curriculum, thereby improving competitiveness, quality, and professionalism across sectors. In support of trainee welfare, PAG Ijewere donated stools, fans, and other appliances to enhance learning comfort. Present at the event were the District Governor-Elect (DGE), Rotarian Layi Abidoye; District Executive Secretary (DES), Rotarian Omotunde Olaleye; Special Assistant to the District Governor, Rotarian Desmond Otakponwmen; and the Chief of Staff to the District Governor, Rotarian Akeem Sumonu. Also, in attendance were the Coordinating Director, Epe Vocational Training Centre (VTC), Mrs. Hassan Christianah O.; Head of Department, Vocational Studies, Mrs. Oladunjoye Taofikat O.; Principal, Rotary Vocational Training Centre (RVTC) Odomola, Mr. Folarin T. Olufemi; and Principal, RVTC Igbogbo, Mrs. Adesina Elizabeth O.
