Have you ever asked yourself, “why hasn’t Jesus healed me or my mental illness?” As someone with chronic mental illness, I see a lot of incorrect narratives about mental illness on Christian social media. A lot of influencers don’t talk about what it’s like to have a chronic illness and simply talk about things like depression and anxiety as if they’re temporary, worldly circumstances only. As someone with chronic symptoms (including depression and anxiety), I know that Jesus doesn’t always heal mental illness. Also, I discuss what it means to rejoice always - it doesn’t mean you’re supposed to be happy all time. The joy you feel from a relationship with Christ doesn’t replace our normal emotions. It can exist simultaneously. Never rush to “fix” or force your emotions. I hope this video offers a different narrative on mental illness. Know that sometimes God doesn’t take it away, but He gives you the strength to endure. Christians don’t like to talk about chronic suffering but our world is unfortunately filled with it.
