The islands are not there to be settled (in fact, some of them won't exist in the end, or they'll be a very different shape) and the resources are not there to be stripped from the land. Instead, you must take only what you need to survive while appeasing the gods and fighting off the European invaders. At its core, Tindaya is a game about balance. Tindaya can be played in Alliance (cooperative) or Dominion (semi-cooperative/competitive) modes, but in both, the main objective is to maintain control of the archipelago by having more people than the invading Conquistadors. Players must work together to appease the gods in order to minimize the impact of the disasters they bring forth each era. How does one appease a god? Offerings, usually in the form of food, but in a pinch, you can throw a villager or captured Conquistador into the volcano. While working to gather offerings and feed your tribe, be careful not to take too much and anger Acoran with your waste, or too little and anger Moneiba by starving your villagers. Even in Dominion mode, this balance of need versus greed can be seen in the end game scoring - taking more resources than your opponents will lose you points. At every level Tindaya tasks you with balance; balance your needs with the resources you gather, balance your quest for points against the good of the archipelago as a whole and balance what you make with what you use. Excess in any of these areas is penalized, from a simple loss of solidarity points up to a tsunami that wipes out the entire archipelago. Tindaya is a versatile game with a meaningful theme and beautiful components and artwork. If you are interested, you would do well to balance one into your budget.
