Common Volkswagen Tiguan Problems: 2 Common Mechanical Issues. In this video I will talk about common Volkswagen Tiguan problems. Here’s a detailed breakdown: Transmission Problems The transmission system is a common mechanical issue in the Volkswagen Tiguan. Owners mostly report; • Premature clutch failure. • Mechatronic unit failures. The Volkswagen Tiguan clutches fail prematurely, causing shuddering on acceleration or deceleration, harsh gear changes, difficulties shifting gears, slipping, and loss of power when accelerating. Mechatronic unit failures lead to transmission slippage, jerky or rough shifts, transmission warning lights on, and failure to shift gears. If you’re experiencing transmission issues, check if they are covered under warranty and have them fixed. Failing components will need to be repaired or replaced to fix the problem if it occurs. In some extreme cases, a total transmission replacement may be required. Changing your transmission fluid frequently can help prevent transmission issues. Your car’s manual contains information on the mileage intervals within which you should replace your transmission fluid. A transmission flush may be necessary if the fluid is dark or contains excessive sediment, which can lead to transmission issues. Fuel System Faults Fuel system defects are also a common mechanical issue that’s reported with the Volkswagen Tiguan. Owners encounter two primary issues; • Leaky fuel pumps. • Evaporative emissions control issues. Leaky fuel pumps are caused by the premature failure of the fuel pump’s internal seals. The leaks affect vehicle performance and can be a safety hazard. Evaporative emissions control system issues are associated with the purge valve, which is prone to failure. A faulty purge valve can result in the check gas cap warning light coming on despite the gas cap being perfectly tightened. Depending on the cause, a fuel system defect may be resolved by; • Replacing the fuel pump. • Replacing the purge valve. • Diagnosing and addressing the primary issue. There is no way to prevent the internal seals and purge valve from failing. However, proper and regular maintenance may extend their life.
