For your chilling pleasure I present to you a full instrumental mix of my new album/project "Strange Occurrences." which I've been working on the past month. As a long time musician/artist I set out on this project to pull influences from all my favorite genres and create an immersive and unique experience like none other. I love trip hop, and dub so they naturally ended up being the main themes. Surely, you'll hear other genres in there as well. Some of my favorites are Brokenbeat, Ambient, D&B, Glitch, anything synthy, indie alternative rock, and world music. I purposely only used 2-3 different chopped loops and one kit in my DAW to create a familiarity and consistency in style for this one. That and it made me be more creative with less options. The synth bass you hear is my favorite sub-bass patch and my first instrument was a bass when I was 15. Basically, I'm a bass player who learned how to play other instruments. The rest is hardware synths and live guitar. This whole album is what I call freestyle producing. Meaning I was just freestyling the whole time. All of these tracks were recorded in my smaller home studio in just a few days(2-3 came a week later.)for the concept. Most of the synth and guitar are one take tracks where I take the best of the track and re-arrange it. The point was to create a true neo-psychedelia experience that doesn't sound over produced or too busy. You might hear some glitches(and guitar noise) in there where I chopped it up, and that's all part of the mix as I didn't do many second takes because I wanted it dirty and some chops are hard to cover. As a bass player my focus is always on the rhythm and the cadence. I spent the next two weeks mixing and tweaking on the arrangements to bring this living monster to life more.
