William A. Larson “Bill” age 85, passed away on December 29, 2025, at The Rosemount - Senior Living at Steeple Center where he had resided for 5½ years. Bill was born March 21, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Arthur W. and Ruby V. (Seelig) Larson. He grew up camping, fishing, and swimming with his parents and brother Harlen. Bill met Jeanine Grassman while in junior high school and they began going steady at age 15. They both attended Minneapolis North High School. Bill was active in sports including football and swimming, where he set state records in the butterfly stroke. One of the many jobs he held in high school and college was lifeguarding for the city of Minneapolis. He attended the University of Minnesota and studied industrial arts education. He and Jeanine married on August 12, 1961, just before his senior year. After graduating in 1962, Bill accepted a commission in the United States Marine Corps and served at Marine Corps Base Quantico (Virginia) and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton (California). After discharge, he and Jeanine returned to Minnesota where Bill began teaching drafting and graphic arts for the St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS). He also held various administrative roles with SPPS including; coordinating the industrial arts and home economics programs and starting the Work Experience Career Exploration. While teaching, Bill continued to pursue his doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota. In 1980 Bill took a leave of absence from SPPS to work for the Arabian-American Oil Company (ARAMCO) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as an industrial training program analyst. While at ARAMCO, he continued learning by studying Arabic, cooking, and learned to scuba dive. While living overseas, Bill traveled throughout Europe, the Far East, and Middle East, including trips with his Dive Club to the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, and Maldive Islands. Upon his return to SPPS he served as Department Head for Facilities, Grounds, and Transportation. Toward the end of his 28 years with SPPS, he served in Assistant; Deputy; and Interim Superintendent roles. Bill’s final career move was to serve as Superintendent for Intermediate District 917 for six years, retiring in 2006. Bill enjoyed woodworking, reading, travel, photography, cooking, golf, and was an avid swimmer. Bill and Jeanine moved to St. Joseph Township, Wisconsin upon returning to the United States where they enjoyed entertaining family, friends, and colleagues. They continued to travel extensively, as they did when overseas. They particularly enjoyed caring for their five grandchildren. After losing Jeanine following 58 years of marriage, Bill moved to Rosemount and continued traveling the world on cruises with his family. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ruby, brother Harlen, wife Jeanine, son William, and infant granddaughter Grace Larson. He is survived by his daughter Brenda (John), daughter-in-law Karen, grandchildren Rachel, Audrey (Wyatt), James (Caity), Carl, and Samuel. Visitation one hour prior to the 11:00 am service on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Augustana Lutheran Church located at 1400 South Robert Street in West St. Paul, Minnesota. Luncheon follows the service. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
