Shadow Photography. Tips for Shooting in a Home Studio.

I'm sharing with you How to Shadow Photography in a Small Home Studio and  get beautiful shadows in the photo. The first thing you need to know to get shadows in your photo: You need to use small light source. The smaller the light source, the clearer the Shadow will be on your subject. You need to use a hard light . Hard light in the studio can be getting using a bare strobe a flash with a reflector on it a strobe with barn doors or you can you small speedlights The third thing you need to know. The further you take away the Strobe from the Model- crisper shadows will be. You need to get  Flash Studio Light higher and far away from the subject. Another thing you need to know. You need to put something in front of the key light to get shadows. If you want clearly defined shadows on the subject face,  you need to put the object closer to the model. It can be any thing that you put in front of the Key Light. For example, it can be a sheet of cardboard with cut figures on it. it can be blinds, it can be transparent glass with drops of water on it, a plant It can be any object  that paints on the model’s  face interesting shadows. Let's repeat the main points again. small light source hard light far away from object put something in front of a  key light . The first look. I use Godox Strobe light in my small studio. I shoot with a Nikon d810 camera. For this photos I shoot with a 50mm and 85 mm. Throughout all the shoot, I keep changing these two lenses. Key Light. I place a Strobe with bare flash  10-13  ft.  away from the subject I made a slice of light with two foam card boards. You can buy the same at any hardware store. As you can see I use studio stands to support these foam plates. But you can just make stands for such foam boards. Because I often use this white side of these foam plates as a reflector. On one side these large pieces of foam card boards are painted with white color and i use them as a reflector. On the other side, they are painted with gray and olive- and it’s serve me as a background. Because i have small studio, I couldn't move my Key Light further to get an even more clearly defined shadows. The second Light is Fill Light. From the right side of my camera, you can see another Strobe. I directed this flash into the ceiling.It works to fill the shadows. The second lighting setup. I used the same scheme as i said before. Only one detail- the fill light was less powerful. That is why you can see the shadows more dark on the photos. The third image was taking with exactly the same in light as the two previous ones. The only difference- I put a Green Color gel filter on the fill light. I use color gel filters from company Neewer.
