Local author Lee Taylor launches her new romance book, A Satchel of Richards, in conversation with her sister and fellow author Marie Marquardt. Thank you for subscribing to our channel! @malaprops A SATCHEL OF RICHARDS Novelist Bridget Stanton’s life needs a massive rewrite. Between the mortgage on her first home and the cost of feeding her horse-sized dog, she’ll never be able to quit her day job. That is, until it quits her. Suspended for teaching A Wrinkle in Time and now desperate for a book advance, she throws herself at the mercy of her brand new unflappably charming agent—who has reluctantly inherited her. His advice: skip the literary fiction and write steamy romance instead. Has he met her? No. Bridget knows nothing about passionate sex. Ever ready with advice, he proposes a solution: research. Enter Josh, a wildly successful romance cover model with Hollywood screenwriting dreams. His vivid descriptions have helped numerous authors navigate their spiciest scenes, but Bridget, it seems, needs a more hands-on approach. As their “research” heats up, she offers him credit on the book—a big break that could help launch his wished-for career. But her publisher balks. The God of Abs cannot share the byline. Now, Bridget must choose: do it their way and save her way of life, or risk it all for a real-life love story. Lee Taylor lives and writes in one of the most bewitching forests in the Appalachians. She has taken classes and studied through the Great Smokies Writing Program, with North Carolina author and teacher Katey Schultz, and through the Accountability Workshop with Annie Hartnett and Tessa Fontaine. You will find her most mornings before dawn in her “Yome Sweet Yome” (think “yurt” but better), loving all the tropes, particularly the ones she turns on their heads. When not writing or hiking, she travels for a day job she loves, always on the lookout for an indie bookstore. A Satchel of Richards is her debut novel. Marie Marquardt is the author of YA novels Does My Body Offend You? (with Mayra Cuevas), Dream Things True, The Radius of Us, and Flight Season. Her books have earned many commendations, including BEA Buzz Books, Books all Young Georgians Should Read, and the CLASP Américas Commendation, and they have been shortlisted for the South Carolina Young Adult Book Award and the Missouri Gateway Readers Award. Does My Body Offend You? was long-listed for the 2023 PEN/Faulkner Award. Marie also has published articles and co-authored two non-fiction books about Latin American immigration to the U.S. South, and has been interviewed about her research, writing, and advocacy on National Public Radio, Public Radio International, and BBC America, among many other media outlets. She lives in Decatur, Georgia with her spouse, four kids, several chickens, a dog, and a bearded dragon. -- Keep in touch with Malaprop's Bookstore/Cafe: Visit our website: https://www.malaprops.com/ Subscribe to our newsletter: https://bit.ly/subscribe-malaprops-enews Instagram: / malapropsbookstore Threads: https://threads.net/malapropsbookstore Facebook: / malapropsbooks Order audio books at https://libro.fm/malaprops Find and support more independent bookstores: https://www.indiebound.org/
