FCSO Press Conference - Baby India found, and arrest made

**A MESSAGE FROM SHERIFF FREEMAN** I told you we would, and we did! I told you whoever was responsible would wear my handcuffs to jail, and she did! Today the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in the Baby India case from June 6, 2019. In this case, a suspect tied up a newborn infant in a plastic bag and threw her into the woods in a desolate area leaving her to suffocate and die. Deputies have arrested Karima Jiwani, a 40-year old female who resides in Southeast Forsyth County. She is charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Abandonment, Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree and other charges. Karima Jiwani is the birth parent of Baby India. She was fittingly arrested by Deputy Terry Roper who helped rescue Baby India nearly 4 years ago. I cannot find the words to describe how someone who should have done their best for a newborn child, instead did their worst. I am so proud of our FCSO team and the dedication they have shown over the past 4 years in never giving up. Particularly I would like to recognize Detective Lieutenant Bill Franco (team leader), Sergeant Tyler Sexton and Detective Corporal Tim Conner (case Detective) for their exceptional work in this case. They were not alone, this was a team effort and nearly 40 Deputies participated in the arrest, search warrants and interviews.
