Virginia's Royal Visits | Documentary

A chronology of visits to Virginia by the British royal family offers a unique historical narrative. Visits from monarchs and minor members of the royal family alike demonstrate Virginia’s place in both American history and the broader history of British colonialism. Those visits also detail how some things like journalistic sensationalism never change - and how other things like affairs of state and the ways we choose to remember our complicated past are always in flux. The Old Dominion has been at the heart of it all for 400 years. I would also like to take this opportunity to announce a new collaborative effort with gifted local composer Jeremy Anderson. Jeremy composed a number of statement pieces especially for this film, and will be working with me on at least two other documentary films I have slated for release before the end of the year. I’m honored to be part of an endeavor that brings together multiple disciplines including history, art, and music in a way that contributes to learning about the past.
