In this episode of The APBT Ring Podcast, we explore the complete story of Garner’s Ch. Chinaman ROM (4xW, BIS), one of the most dominant and influential American Pit Bull Terriers in gamedog history. Born on R. Abernathy’s yard on November 29, 1977, Chinaman apbt was sired by Wood’s Trouble and out of Abernathy’s Molly. His littermates included Boy (3xW, owned by G. Wright) and Onyx Lady (sent to Dr. Wood). After a short stay with Dr. Wood, Chinaman was sent to Vince and Rob in California, where his legendary career began. Despite arriving underweight and full of parasites, Chinaman quickly proved his worth. He overcame Ch. Ceasar in his first roll and destroyed the feared Doc in just 17 minutes. His official matches included dominant wins over elite opponents like Gray’s Hubcap (who had previously defeated Red Danger) and a final match at 7 years old against a head dog from R. Jackson. That 38-minute battle became his longest — and yet another victory. Chinaman pitbull became known for his mouth, intelligence, and finishing ability. Described as having the lungs of a greyhound and the bite of an alligator, he was a tactical, relentless competitor with the build of a muscular thoroughbred. As a producer, Chinaman’s legacy is unmatched. He sired champions like Ch. Eightball, Ch. Cotton, Ch. Chinabuck, Ch. Chinagirl, Ch. Stormy, Ch. Missy, Ch. Chinarose, Ch. Ninja, and Ch. Crock. His sons Brodt’s Boar, Cottingham’s Cotton, and Shockley’s Header each went over the 3-hour mark on the same weekend. His most influential son, Frisco ROM, became a cornerstone of modern APBT bloodlines.
