Finally, after several requests, here is my highly anticipated comic book stain removal tutorial. In the video, I cover the process of mitigating a water stain and correcting stacking curl on a Tomb of Dracula 1 that was previously graded as a CGC 5.5. We also review removing a graded comic from the case, assessment of pressable and unpressable defects, dry cleaning, humidification, and pressing as well as spot work to remove dents, bends, and creases. I also drop lots of little nuggets of advice throughout (one part shows the construction of my humidity chamber). So be sure to keep an eye out! This book required a lot of hands on time and two full rounds of pressing in addition to the spot work with the tacking iron to fully remove the stacking curl. Overall, I am happy with the results. Stain removal is a very difficult part of comic cleaning. Each stain is different. On this one, I think I could have stopped two peroxide applications earlier to achieve a better color match between the back cover and the area I removed the stain from. I would recommend lots of practice with different types of stains before attempting on a valuable part of your collection. Either way, these methods can be applied to a variety of stains and locations on the book. Let me know what you think! Enjoy!
