The “Human Rights, Truth Telling, and Justice” Symposium was a co-sponsored event involving The Human Rights Archive & the DHRC at FHI. The symposium's focus was on truth telling and justice in the context of human rights, particularly regarding the 30th anniversary of Nunca Más in Argentina. Kimberly Theidon spoke on how the offspring of rape in Peru face formidable challenges both within the home & in their community as that stigma from birth threatens to rigidly cast their entire future. She is a medical anthropologist focusing on Latin America. Her research interests include domestic, structural and political violence; gender studies; theories and forms of subjectivity; human rights and international humanitarian law; transitional justice; the politics of post-war reparations; disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programs for ex-combatants; and US counter-narcotics policy. During the 2014-2015 academic year, Theidon will be a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington D.C, and will then begin her appointment as the Henry J. Leir Chair in International Humanitarian Studies at the Fletcher School, Tufts University.
