It is a historic city and a developing community with a population of about three million. Pir Mahal was built about 110 years ago near a small railway station, which has become a major transportation hub today. The city is known for its excellent markets and farmers' markets. Tehsil Pir Mahal is an administrative subdivision of Toba Tek Singh District, Punjab, Pakistan. Pir Mahal is the capital of Pir Mahal Tehsil. The Government of Punjab, Pakistan enacted the notification of Pir Mahal on January 24, 2013 with effect from February 1, 2013.Earlier, Pir Mahal was a sub-tehsil of Kamalia tehsil. According to the notification of Punjab government, there are 16 union councils in Tehsil Pir Mahal consisting of 133 small towns and villages. Emerged as a separate district on the map of Punjab since 1982. It was named after the headquarters town. His name is Toba Tek Singh. It was named after a Sikh elder. Tek Singh who looked after a pond and offered drinking water to passersby. In this way he did a great human service to the community around him throughout his life. He earned a good name in the hearts of the people through his selfless services and gradually this pond was called as Toba Tek Singh which means it is the pond of Tek Singh. There was a small market around this pond, which flourished later and was named after this pond.During the 1970s, when many Pakistani cities were renamed after British rulers, their original or ancestral names or more acceptable names for the local population, such as Montgomery being renamed Sahiwal. However, Toba Tek Singh remained in very few cities. The main reason for retaining his real name is Tek Singh's reputation. In 1982, Toba Tek Singh, formerly a subdivision, seceded from Faisalabad district and became a separate district.
