After having set up my more than 35 years old “Appalachian” OS 45 C/R for the recording of “Softly & Tenderly” -- see my earlier video • Softly & Tenderly – autoharp instrumental -- I felt like playing some more tunes in 3/4 time, tunes from my standard repertoire (some in a different key than usual, no problem on 3-row layout where the chords in a row are following the circle of fifths, which is true for the original OS 21 chords layout as well as for the so-called Bowers layout): 1. Lorelei (“Ich weiß nicht, was soll das bedeuten“) -- key of D Major (see http://ziggyharpdust.net/pdf/Lorelei.pdf -- For having the better logic as explained in http://ziggyharpdust.net/autoharp.html I had shifted the whole bass button row of the original OS chord bar layout one position to the left, which caused the old Ab bar to drop out: I refelted it to be a Bm and inserted it in the now empty position to the right of the Em button. And so I was able to play my arrangement exactly.) 2. Spanish Romance -- key of D Minor and D Major (see http://ziggyharpdust.net/pdf/SpanishR... for an arrangement in Em/E) 3. Bi-modal Greensleeves -- key of G Melodic Minor and G Dorian (with a bit of confusion :( ) (See http://ziggyharpdust.net/pdf/Greensle... for the “standard” version in Melodic Minor, common for about 500 years, in the usual key of A Melodic Minor -- this version requires a chromatic autoharp! For the tune to be playable on a single key diatonic I rearranged it a bit and made a Dorian version: see http://ziggyharpdust.net/pdf/Greensle... for the key of G Dorian. The 1st and 4th run through the tune are in G Melodic Minor, the 2nd and 3rd in G Dorian. The main difference is the use of Dm in the Dorian version instead of D7 in the Melodic Minor version.) 4. Plaisir d’amour -- key of G Major (see http://ziggyharpdust.net/pdf/PlaisirD... for my version (without C part)) 5. Beautiful Dreamer -- key of G Major (cf. the description on my video • 3/4 time Foster suite - autoharp instrumental for more info) [Well, I thought the old repertoire doesn’t need extra practising. Now I’m afraid I have to rethink my attitude. :(] http://ziggyharpdust.net
