The innovation officially presented at the AKL24 - International Laser Technology Congress describes a holistic approach to laser beam welding for the cell contact of battery modules in the highest quality, using artificial intelligence. The battery is a significant cost driver and places high overall quality demands on the joining technology. Each weld seam must not only meet the mechanical requirements, but the electrical conductivity is a property that must meet the specifications 100%. The AI-based evaluation of the laser process signals to extract absolute physical values enables the reconstruction of a 3D fingerprint for each weld seam. The direct feedback from the system technology to the system in the form of component strength, gap dimension between the joining parts, the welding depth and thus the contact quality of the cell contact minimizes the quality control loop to batch size ‘1’. In the event of an error, the system is immediately stopped, and the cause of the error is directly eliminated by assigning the cause of the error to the corresponding contact point, thus keeping the scrap rate low. The finalists of the Innovation Award Laser Technology 2024 were officially presented at the AKL24 - International Laser Technology Congress, and the individual places were announced in a festive manner.
