Instead of returning, I follow local advice and take an alternate off-road track, leading me to a shaky suspension bridge with a raging river underneath, a crossing only bikes and pedestrians can attempt. This becomes one of the most thrilling and nerve-tasting moments of my trip. Along the detour, I meet and interact with friendly locals and Hoper Valley Gardener, who shows me how fruit trees and vegetables are grown in this high-altitude cold desert. Theses simple moments reveals the beautiful lifestyle of the people living under the mighty Karakoram mountains. Eventually, I reach the Hoper Glacier View Point and then hike directly on the glacier, facing freezing winds, slippery ice, deep crevasses, and breathtaking scenery.
