Luis Felipe Landáez Requena (Higuerote, Estado Miranda, Venezuela, 1931 - Peñalolén, Santiago de Chile, 2008), best known as Luisín Landáez, was a Venezuelan cumbia singer. Born in Higueronte, he moved with his family to Caracas soon after. In his teenage years he worked in tha family garage in the day and as a singer in the nights . In 1953 he won a singing contest in Caracas called Billos Busca Cantantes, which served as a springboard for a professional singing career. He began at the age of 21, serving as the crooner for different orchestras: Manuel Ramos, Casablanca, Caracas Swing Boys and Arnoldo Nali. After being part of some bands, like the Billo's Caracas Boys and the Luis Alfonzo Larraín's Orchestra , he began a succesful solo career in the late 50s ............................................................................................ "La piragua" is a composition by legendary colombian songwriter José Benito Barros Palomino (1915-2007), author of more than 800 songs in the genres of cumbia, porro, merengue and bolero, among others.
