India's Cleanest City Shocked As 13 Die From Contaminated Water In Indore After Civic Failure Crisis

India’s cleanest city is in shock. Indore, long celebrated for topping sanitation rankings, is facing one of its worst public health crises. Contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura has claimed 13 lives and left more than 1,100 people ill, exposing deep cracks in civic infrastructure. What began as stomach infections quickly spiralled into tragedy. Families rushed children and elderly relatives to overcrowded hospitals as panic spread across the locality. Investigations revealed a leaking water pipeline running beneath a toilet, allowing sewage to mix with drinking water. Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya rushed to the area amid outrage, assuring free treatment for all victims and announcing Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of the deceased. Emergency wards were opened, ambulances deployed, and water tankers supplied Narmada water. Officials have admitted lapses. Engineers have been suspended. A high-level probe is underway. But for residents of Bhagirathpura, the damage is already done.
