Oval chain ring MTB Test vs round chainring. You WON'T Believe it! I wanted to make my Enduro bike a better climber so I installed an Absolute Black 32 tooth oval chain ring. I used one on my 2017 Motobecane trail bike and thought it helped. So...what the heck?! A week before, I did a comparison between my Trek Fuel EX 9.8 trail bike and my Kona Process 153 enduro / all-mountain bike. So I had recent GoPro footage of a familiar trail with 3.5 miles of challenging single track ridden with a round chain ring. Next, I swapped to the oval and rode it again with the same effort. I planned to mainly compare a few steep, techy climbs and use the video to see if there was a REAL difference or just a FEEL difference. The result was astounding! It's not even close! In addition to the climbs being waaaay faster, my time on the whole trail went from 27:26 to 26:01! I had to go back 1 1/2 years to find a faster time. Watch the video closely. It's legit!
