He specializes in the cultural and intellectual history of early modern Central Europe. His most recent publication is "Theuerdank: The Illustrated Epic of a Renaissance Knight" (Routledge, 2022), the first English edition of Emperor Maximilian I's great epic poem. Oliver Rathkolb is Professor at the Department of Contemporary History of the University of Vienna. He is author of several books and studies focusing on contemporary history, music history and communications/media history. He is chairman of the academic advisory board of the House of European History (European Parliament, Brussels).
