New Hospital Community Benefit Toolkit to Promote Tobacco Cessation Across Community Providers

American Lung Association, February 22, 2018. More than half of the hospitals in the US are private, nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt. Since 2012, they have been required to conduct Community Health Needs Assessments every three years and implement a strategy to deal with issues identified by that Needs Assessment. Data indicates that average spending by tax-exempt hospitals on community benefits has not changed much since 2012. Most hospitals have completed just one CHNA cycle and are struggling with how to have the most impact within the limits of their resources and expertise.
