Canyon De Chelly 50K

Once a year in October - Shaun Martin puts on a 50K Ultramarathon in Canyon De Chelly. 800+ people apply and a lottery draws the 150 that are allowed to race. I was overwhelmed by the experience; to be embraced by the Navajo culture, the people and the spiritual way they view running. I didn't feel really well after the race briefing, but 8 hours of sleep helped, though I still had an upset stomach the morning of the race. The start was cold at 22 degrees but things warmed up as the sun came up. Here you get to see Shaun's story of how the race was begun and his introduction to running the Navajo Way.
