Captured on film just off the shore of mainland Hawaii, in August, these massive mantas put on a stellar performance for divers as they swished, swooped and barrel rolled above their heads. The fever of mantas mirror and manoeuvre with one another in perfect harmony, coming together belly-to-belly and arching back over on themselves during an unprecedented, mesmeric display. One manta gets a little too close for comfort however as it plummets towards Jenna Spesard, an avid explorer who captured the encounter on film, with its mouth gaping, nearly swallowing her whole.
