On Sunday September 17th, before a capacity attendance at Croke Park, captain, Jimmy Browne, led Mayo senior football team to history. For the first time in 38 years, Mayo were contesting an All-Ireland final. This RTE 120 minute production recaptures all the colour and glory of Mayo's historic 1989 campaign. It celebrates Mayo's struggles to overcome Galway and Roscommon in the Connacht championship. It recalls the tremendous second-half comeback against Tyrone in their dramatic All-Ireland semi-final meeting. And it reaches a climax with their All-Ireland final clash against Cork. The video takes you behind the scenes in the Mayo camp on the route to Croke Park. It includes interviews with team manager John O'Mahony, players, Willie Joe Padden, T.J. Kilgallen, Frank Noone and Liam McHale, and the men who captained Mayo to previous All-Ireland championships, Sean Flanagan (1951) and Seamus O'Malley (1936). As well as featuring action from the 1989 championship season, the video includes archive pictures of Mayo's 1951 All-Ireland final victory.
