This is a playthrough of single-player mode using Shao Kahn's sprites/data on Nightwolf in the Genesis version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Read on below for more information... Shao Kahn is the final boss of the game. He is an unlockable playable character, but he can only be selected in a 2-player game. This means that he is unavailable in a single-player game. For this playthrough, a different method is used to effectively "replace" the registered character (the one you chose on the character select screen) with the sprites/data of Shao Kahn in gameplay. The main advantage to this is that it allows Kahn to appear on other stage backgrounds instead of just The Pit 3. The downside however is that he will appear with the registered character's colour palette, which will look a bit messed up. It is somewhat unexpected that Kahn is locked onto The Pit 3 stage in Genesis UMK3, considering that in the Genesis prequel MK3, Kahn could appear on any stage in that. Here is some information, as follows: ---- The wrong colours can be "corrected" by getting hit by an opponent special move which makes him temporarily disappear or covers his sprites (an example being Sub-Zero's Ice Blast). However his colours will be wrong again for the next round or match. ---- Because it's not really Shao Kahn, the damage you receive and the damage output will be of the registered character (in this case, Nightwolf). This makes him much weaker than the genuine Kahn. ---- Because it's not really Shao Kahn, if you beat the game, the ending will be of the registered character you chose (in this case, Nightwolf). ---- Using this method allows Shao Kahn to reach the "Finish Him/Her" window if he wins or loses. This means he can have fatalities performed on him if he loses on the winning round. Technically it also allows Kahn himself the chance to perform a fatality, but he doesn't have any. ---- When you beat the game and you select the "Supreme Demonstration" prize, Shao Kahn will replace the character who performs the finishing moves in the demonstration. This will cause glitches and eventually will crash the game. You can see this starting around 11:56. ===== SPECIAL MOVES ===== -- Shoulder Charge: F, F + [LP] -- Knee Charge: F, F + [HP] -- Fireball: B, B, F + [LP] -- Mallet: B, F + [HP] -- Laugh: D, D + [HK] -- Taunt: D, D + [LK] ==== ABOUT UMK3 SHAO KAHN ===== Shao Kahn originally appeared in Mortal Kombat 2 as the last boss, and is an unplayable character in all the genuine versions of MK2. Even using alternate methods to select him in the 16-bit and 32-bit versions of MK2 was pretty useless, as he easily locked the game if you try to control him (you may have seen this on my channel). The breakthrough finally came in the SNES and Mega Drive versions of the original Mortal Kombat 3, where Shao Kahn was made a genuine playable character in them, accessed within hidden options screens whereby the player would have to input a command to unlock them. This has thankfully carried onto Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, as we see here in the video. ===== ABOUT GENESIS UMK3 ===== The game is developed by Avalanche Software. As this uses the same code from Sculptured Software's previous port (MK3) on the same size cartridge size (32Mbit), it meant that many cuts had to be made, some of which as follows: ---- The character Sheeva is removed. ---- The announcer voices for the character's names are removed. ---- The Animalities are removed. However the Mercy feature is still intact. However, there were some extras/improvements over the original Arcade UMK3: ---- Rain and Noob Saibot are added to the playable roster. ---- Mileena, Ermac and Classic Sub-Zero are available from the start and are regular characters. ----- Brutalities (from Mortal Kombat Trilogy) were added to the game.
