In this video, we break down a real-world FCC enforcement case where an amateur radio operator unintentionally caused interference to emergency services—and how it likely happened. The culprit? A little-known feature called Audio Relay, also known as a simplex repeater or parrot repeater. Some modern handheld radios (HTs) include this feature, but if it’s accidentally enabled, your radio can begin retransmitting signals automatically—potentially on frequencies you are NOT authorized to use. ⚠️ In this case, the operator’s radio was: • Monitoring a public safety frequency • Automatically retransmitting it • Causing harmful interference to emergency communications Even if unintentional, transmitting on public service or Part 90 frequencies without authorization can lead to FCC warnings, fines, or worse. 🎯 In this video, you’ll learn: • What a simplex repeater / parrot repeater is • How the Audio Relay feature works • Why it’s dangerous if misconfigured • How interference with emergency services happens • FCC rules on unauthorized transmissions • How to prevent accidental out-of-band transmitting 🔹My Favorite Gear - https://www.amazon.com/shop/km4ack 🔹Links mentioned in the video https://www.fcc.gov/document/david-o-... 🔹Weekly Newsletter - https://mailchi.mp/40da1fe472e3/km4ac... 🔹Follow Me Twitter @km4ack 🔹Cool Ham Gear - http://km4ack.com 🔹Support the channel through Patreon - / km4ack 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases
