Powdery mildew is a common fungal plant disease, recognizable by white, talcum-powder-like spots on leaves, stems, and buds. Unlike other fungal diseases, it thrives in warm, dry conditions with high nighttime humidity, not on wet surfaces. The disease is caused by many specific, wind-borne fungi, each typically infecting only certain plant species. Symptoms include stunted growth, leaf discoloration, and premature leaf drop, though severe infections can cause plant death. Symptoms and Identification Appearance: Look for white to grayish, powdery spots or patches on the leaves, stems, and buds of your plants. Treatment I've used: 2 Tablespoons of potassium bicarbonate to 1 gallon of water.
